our adult classes come in three formats:

Workshops

They may only be 1 session, but we pack in a lot!

Spend a few hours with friends or make new ones as you learn a new art form, craft or skill in this welcoming format for people of all skill levels.

4 -8 week Classes

These classes are designed for people looking to dive a little deeper, spending 4 or 6 consecutive weeks in one specific medium.

We will be closed for the month of August and not offering classes while we creatively reset and recharge for the busy year ahead.

summer figure drawing

 

With Rosie

Ages: Adults

Class Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Dates: Tuesdays 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21

In this 4 session class we will explore figure drawing from the live nude model. Beginner to experienced drawers are invited to join as we practice observing through tone, mark making and composition, and bring the model to life through gesture. We will mostly be working in charcoal, and all materials will be provided, but students are also welcome to bring their own additional drawing supplies. ​Students who have taken this class before are welcome to join, as material will be tailored to class participants, whether just beginning or building on existing skills.​

summer acrylic painting workshop:

still life + Patterns

With Eleanore

Ages: Adults

Class Time: 5:45-8:45pm

Dates: Thursday 7/2

Come and paint still-life scenes with a twist! In this 3 hour, one-session workshop you will learn how to translate the objects of a still-life scene into a pattern-filled painting. Using the shapes and compositions from arranged objects, you will then depart from realism and fill the canvas with your own patterns and colors. Whether you have never painted before or are looking for something new to try, this workshop is for all levels! All materials provided.

summer printmaking workshop:

gelli plates

With Emilia

Ages: Adults

Class Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Dates: Thursday 7/9

Join us for an evening exploring the process of printmaking! In this workshop you'll learn how to layer, arrange and experiment with color and composition. We will focus on creating monoprints with Gelli plates (reusable printing plates that mimic the look and feel of gelatin plates but without the animal-based gelatin). We will use stencils, stamping, and mark-making to create several one-of-a-kind prints.  Come experience all of the unexpected beauty and fun surprises that printmaking has to offer. All levels welcome!

summer drawing workshop:

plein air drawing

With Rosie

Ages: Adults

Class Time: 3:00-4:30pm

Dates: Sunday 7/12

Join us to practice some approaches to drawing from observation onsite, out in Prospect Park. We will practice seeing and capturing big shapes, finding small marks and detail, and will work primarily in pencil.

 

We will meet near the 15th street entrance to the park and embark from there, exact meeting location will be shared with enrolled students the week of the workshop.

 
All levels welcome, all materials included.

summer acrylic painting workshop:

still life

With Eleanore

Ages: Adults

Class Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Dates: Thursday 7/16

In this workshop you will have the opportunity to paint a still-life scene using acrylic paint. Because this is a one-off class, you will prioritize color and composition, leaving some of the more realistic painting techniques behind. Using arranged objects as a jumping off point, you will find playful ways to make your painting uniquely yours.

 

All levels welcome - this class is great for those who are just beginning and those who wish to keep building on what they know! All materials provided.

summer printmaking workshop:

block printing

With Emilia

Ages: Adults

Class Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Dates: Thursday 7/23

Join us for an evening exploring the process of block printing! We'll focus on techniques using rubber block carving and printing that invite you to layer, arrange, and experiment with color and composition. Each student will walk away with at least one small stamp they have carved and a few unique prints! This class is designed for beginners and those with some printmaking experience.

All materials provided.

Dates: Wednesdays 5/27, 6/3, 6/10, 6/17

In this 4 week class you will be painting from still-life objects. You will learn how to simplify and prioritize details, identify contrast, mix desired colors, and experiment with the composition of an image. Using arranged scenes and objects as the base for all the projects, you will also explore ways to find inspiration in the scenes you paint, and how to keep building on what excites you. You will have opportunities to choose what you paint, and share in the process with the whole class. All levels welcome - this class is great for those who are just beginning and those who wish to keep building on what they know!

Late Spring Daytime Acrylic Painting: Still Life

Class Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm

Dates: Thursdays 5/28, 6/4, 6/11, 6/18

In this 4 week class you will be painting from still-life objects.
