They may only be 1 session, but we pack in a lot!

Spend a few hours with friends or make new ones as you learn a new art form, craft or skill in this welcoming format for people of all skill levels.

These classes are designed for people looking to dive a little deeper, spending 4 or 6 consecutive weeks in one specific medium.

Dates: Tuesdays 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21

In this 4 session class we will explore figure drawing from the live nude model. Beginner to experienced drawers are invited to join as we practice observing through tone, mark making and composition, and bring the model to life through gesture. We will mostly be working in charcoal, and all materials will be provided, but students are also welcome to bring their own additional drawing supplies. ​Students who have taken this class before are welcome to join, as material will be tailored to class participants, whether just beginning or building on existing skills.​

summer printmaking workshop:

block printing

Class Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Dates: Thursday 7/23

Join us for an evening exploring the process of block printing! We'll focus on techniques using rubber block carving and printing that invite you to layer, arrange, and experiment with color and composition. Each student will walk away with at least one small stamp they have carved and a few unique prints! This class is designed for beginners and those with some printmaking experience.

plein air painting workshop

Capture the brilliance of late summer/early fall color in Prospect Park—in your own painting! Join us for an afternoon of plein-air painting in Prospect Park. You will learn how to set up, what to look for in a pleasing composition and how to apply watercolor paint for desired effects. Instruction includes demonstration in watercolor, individual guidance during work time and final critique. 


All materials provided (including portable chairs and tables), all levels welcome.

fall printmaking workshop:

gelli prints

With Emilia

Class Time: 2:00 - 5:00pm

Dates: Saturday 10/17

Join us for an afternoon exploring the process of printmaking! In this workshop you'll learn how to layer, arrange and experiment with color and composition. We will focus on creating monoprints with Gelli plates (reusable printing plates that mimic the look and feel of gelatin plates but without the animal-based gelatin). We will use stencils, stamping, and mark-making to create several one-of-a-kind prints. Come experience all of the unexpected beauty and fun surprises that printmaking has to offer. All levels welcome!

holiday card-making workshop

Join us for an evening of printmaking! In this 2 hour workshop we will be creating our own holiday cards using Gelli Print techniques. We'll walk beginners through the basic process and techniques of Gelli printing, and those with more experience will have space to work with whatever level of guidance they need! Workshop participants will each take home several cards. Gather some friends to join you, or just come make new ones!

In this 6 session class we will explore the exciting intersection of collage and printmaking! Our primary focus will be on learning various collage techniques and creating unique compositions using hand painted papers and other unique materials. We will also spend some time making prints with rubber blocks to incorporate into our collage work.

In this 6 session class, we will explore drawing the live model. You will
develop strong observational abilities while investigating proportion, balance,
and overall ‘gesture’ in each pose. This workshop will also address effective
line work as well as effects of light and shadow on the three-dimensional
form. This class welcomes both beginners building foundational skills and
more experienced artists refining their technique.​

In this 6 week class you will be painting from still-life objects. You will learn how to simplify and prioritize details, identify contrast, mix desired colors, and experiment with the composition of an image. Using arranged scenes and objects as the base for all projects, you will also explore ways to find inspiration in the scenes you paint, and how to keep building on what excites you. You will have opportunities to choose what you paint, and share in the process with the whole class.

 

All levels welcome - this class is great for those who are just beginning and those who wish to keep building on what they know! All materials provided.

early fall Drawing:

intro to illustration

Ages: Adults

Class Time: 7:30 - 9:30pm

Dates: Wednesdays 9/16, 9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21

Join us to explore the world of storytelling through drawing, and to practice the fundamentals of drawing in a relaxed, supportive environment. This introductory illustration class is designed to start with the basics of drawing: perspective, proportion, shading, and line-work. We will draw from observation, imagination, and reference images, experimenting with techniques used by illustrators to create expressive, engaging artwork. Once we are acquainted with the basics, we’ll move toward creative exercises designed to spark narrative ideas—we may do things like illustrate existing stories or poems or practice doing daily diaries, as well as look at the work of existing illustrators for inspiration.

Prior drawing experience is not required, just curiosity and a willingness to explore. And for people with established artistic practices, this class could be a chance to reassess drawing habits and try something new.

Come experience the delight of watercolor painting combined with drawing fundamentals to help you create your own beautiful works of art! This 6 session class has something for everyone, whether you’re a beginner eager to learn or an experienced artist ready to build on your existing skills.


In each session, we’ll focus on essential drawing techniques: creating volume through shading, using negative space to define forms, and developing keen observation through contour drawing. These skills will form a strong foundation for your watercolor work.

During the second part of class, we’ll explore the expressive possibilities of watercolor. Beginners will discover what the medium can really do, while returning students will deepen their skills through new techniques each week. We’ll work from simple still life arrangements, giving you the chance to experiment and apply what you’ve learned in vibrant, personal ways.This class is designed for both new and returning students.

In this six week acrylic painting class you will look at still lives through a new lens - patterns! Using arranged objects as the jumping off point, you will then interpret what you see through playful experimentation with color, mark making, patterns and shapes. Focus will be geared toward atmosphere, personality, and movement, rather than accuracy.

 

All levels are welcome - you do not need to take still-life painting to take this class.

Come and paint your own photos in this 4 week acrylic painting class! Learn how to translate an image into a painting, tell a story or convey an emotion by experimenting with color, composition and subject matter.
