Spend an evening with friends or make new ones as you learn a new art form, craft or skill in this welcoming format for people of all skill levels.

These classes are designed for people looking to dive a little deeper, spending 4 or 6 consecutive weeks in one specific medium.

spring Workshops 

bundle dye workshop 

With Sophia

Ages: Adults  (16+)

Class Time: 6:30pm-9:00pm

Dates: Wednesday 4/17

Learn how to bundle dye silk scarves! Spend an evening learning about this exciting natural dye process in which natural materials like flowers, leaves, dye extracts and food scraps are placed onto fabric, wrapped, and then steamed to reveal colors and prints.

*Please note: This is the same workshop as the Bundle Dye Workshop on 4/10. You are welcome to sign up for both, but it will cover the same material.

Early Spring classes (april-may)

early spring Acrylic painting 

With Janet

Ages: Adults  (16+)

Class Time: 10:00am-12:00pm

Dates: Sundays 4/7, 4/14, 5/5, 5/12*

*No class 4/21 or 4/28 for Spring Break

Paint the still-life using acrylic paint in this 4 session class! Working directly from arranged objects, you'll learn how to compose and paint your own compelling still life by recognizing and translating values, simplifying detail and shapes, color mixing with a limited palette and applying paint to achieve desired effects! Start from the beginning if you're new to painting, or hone your skills in a new creative community if you're a more experienced artist.

 

All materials provided, all levels welcome!

This class is also appropriate for those of you who have taken acrylics with us before, as you will be able to build on what you have already learned!

early spring figure drawing

With Rosie

Ages: Adults  (16+)

Class Time: 4:30-7:00pm 

Dates: Sundays 4/7, 4/14, 5/5, 5/12*

*No class 4/21 or 4/28 for Spring Break

In this 4 session class we will explore figure drawing from the live nude model. Beginner to experienced drawers are invited to join as we practice observing through tone, mark making and composition, and bring the model to life through gesture. We will mostly be working in charcoal, and all materials will be provided, but students are also welcome to bring their own additional drawing supplies. 

Students who have taken this class before are welcome to join, as material will be tailored to class participants, whether just beginning or building on existing skills. We've increased the class time to allow for more art-making and longer poses!

Early Spring acrylics: painting the photograph

With Janet

Ages: Adults  (16+)

Class Time: 6:45pm-8:45pm

Date: Mondays 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/29*

*No class 4/22 for Spring Break

For centuries, artists have painted from photographs. In this 4 session class, we will use photographic sources as subject and also for inspiration. Working in both acrylic and gouache paint, we will go over techniques and concepts, and focus on what makes a compelling composition. We will further explore with color-mixing, dark/light value studies and try out different paint applications to achieve desired effects.  

 

Students may complete one painting or several. Reference material includes (but not limited to) landscape, figurative, interiors or still-life. We will have reference materials on hand, but students are also welcome to bring their own photos to paint from. 

 

All materials included, all levels welcome.

early spring printmaking 

With Susan

Ages: Adults  (16+)

Class Time: 6:45-8:45pm

Dates: Tuesdays 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/30, 5/7, 5/14*

*No class 4/23 for Spring Break  

Join us as we explore a variety of printmaking techniques in this 6 session class! Printmaking will invite you to layer, arrange and experiment with color and composition. We will use a variety of papers and fabric as our printing surface as we explore styrofoam printing, collographs, and monoprints with Gelli plates. (Gelli plates are a very effective surface to pick up even the most subtle marks you make.) We will also use stencils, and carve stamps to create beautiful prints.

 

All levels welcome and all materials provided!

early spring watercolor Painting

Ages: Adults  (16+)

Class Time: 11:00am-1:00pm

Dates: Thursdays 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, 5/2*

*No class 4/25 for Spring Break 

Come experience the joy of watercolor and discover how you can use this medium to create your own beautiful paintings! This 4 session class has it all: instruction for beginners as well as the opportunity for those with previous experience to build on their existing skills. This class will begin with an exploration of the materials to uncover what watercolors can really do (for those who are new to watercolors) and then each week students will learn new skills and techniques to enhance their work. We will work from objects arranged in simple still lives each week.

 

All materials provided.

 

This class is also appropriate for those of you who have taken watercolors with us before, as you will be able to build on what you have already learned!

Class Time: 7:30pm-9:30pm

Dates: Thursdays 4/4, 4/11, 4/18, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16*

In this 6 session class we will explore the exciting intersection of collage and printmaking! Our primary focus will be on learning various collage techniques and creating unique compositions using hand painted papers and other unique materials. We will also spend some time making prints with gelli plates to incorporate into our collage work.

All levels welcome! All materials provided.

 

This class is also appropriate for those of you who have taken collage with us before, as you will be able to build on what you have already learned!
