We will make art out of the world around us in camp this week! It's going to be a fun messy time as we practice printmaking using food and sunshine, balance and build sculptures out of objects we find in the recycling bin, invent weird drawing and painting tools, and engage in lots of creative play together.

We will explore lots of materials and let our imaginations run wild as we build and decorate tiny homes (or tiny castles, tiny spaceships, tiny zoos...) together! Campers will see all the things they can make with cardboard, wood, paint, clay, and more. We will also play with our art, creating characters to live inside our structures and telling lots of fun and silly stories along the way!

Is your child's imagination as immense as the Milky Way itself? Then let your astro art explorer come and spend the week crafting and creating work that is out of this world. Each day we will traverse outer space examining its wondrous planets and oddities, all the while exploring different techniques from painting and sculpture to marbling and melting. Your child will be over the moon making all sorts of astro objects from moon rocks to galaxy slime to rockets that really fly.

If your child has ever wondered what is on the other side of rainbows, then they have just the sort of imagination we are looking for. In this one week camp we will delve into color and texture, exploring artistic mediums with non-traditional tools and open goals. There is no right way to paint a rainbow and nobody knows that better than your little dreamer.

In Earth Art camp, we will spend the afternoon building on children's natural curiosity about the world around them. What if ladybugs were huge and elephants were teeny tiny? What if everything was purple? What if grass wasn't grass at all, but something fuzzy? Your child will answer these questions and so many more while we sculpt and build and play and draw, remaking the world around them in their own unique way.

Paper Art

Paper isn't just for drawing anymore! Join us for a week of afternoon camp as we will learn how to transform this humble material into one of a kind art works through sculpture, folding, cutting and weaving. We will begin the week learning how to make our own paper, move on to paper mache, castle construction, origami and so much more.

In this class focused on 2D art, we'll start by exploring basic printing techniques such as collagraph, monoprinting, and printing with everyday objects and then push the limits of each process to create unique and exciting work! We'll print on paper, fabric and more to create memorable and wearable art. Campers will also learn how to layer paint with their prints to create complex images.

Building 3D Friends

Welcome to our moving creature workshop! We will design and create creatures of our own, using 3D and soft sculpture materials including fabric, wire, stuffing and found materials. We will explore different ways of giving our creatures moveable elements, like wings, wheels, limbs and compartments, and will build ourselves some 3D friends!

During this week-long afternoon class we will use the the city as a resource as visit local museums and/or galleries as well as various city parks and public spaces. We will explore the city as we draw, paint, and learn new techniques for visual expression, returning to The Art Annex for reflection at the end of each class. This class is open to all experience levels, and will focus on creating work based on student interests.

During this intensive we will use the art and nature at our disposal in the neighborhood to practice making art from observation, as well as taking inspiration from the world around us, visiting local museums and/or galleries as well as various parts of Prospect Park. In addition to practicing observational drawing technique using graphite, charcoal and pen, we will explore ink and paint and will create finished pieces. This class will contain lots of space for exploration, and is open to all experience levels.
